"This is absurd": PM mocks bizarre Higgins conspiracy

<p>Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has denied claims Senator Katy Gallagher misled Parliament over what she knew about <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/lisa-wilkinson-denies-turning-to-senior-politicians-over-higgins-rape-allegations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Brittany Higgins’ rape allegations</a>, dubbing it a “bizarre conspiracy”.</p> <p>Amid the Coalition preparing to target the Finance Minister and Labor during question time, Albanese is backing the Senator completely.</p> <p>He said the real questions were around how the Morrison Government mishandled the issue and not about how Higgins’ boyfriend tipped off Senator Gallagher.</p> <p>“This is absurd,” Albanese declared.</p> <p>“It’s a bizarre conspiracy theory – this concocted issue by what is a desperate Liberal opposition looking for any issue.</p> <p>“Katy Gallagher has been transparent.”</p> <p>The uproar follows the leaking of a six-hour audio tape that hears Higgins’ partner David Sharaz bragging to The Project that he had a connection with Senator Gallagher and in turn, she would drive the story forward in Senate estimates.</p> <p>Network Ten has lodged a police complaint over the leak after a tape of Lisa Wilkinson and Brittany Higgins was seen on a rival channel.</p> <p>Thomson Geer law firm partner Marlia Saunders, who is currently acting for Network Ten in the defamation proceedings, has confirmed she has filed a complaint to Australian Capital Territory Policing.</p> <p>Ten has complained that the material used was obtained via coercive subpoenas for the criminal trial and should have remained under wraps.</p> <p>“Last Wednesday, Ten made a complaint to the AFP requesting they investigate an apparent contempt of court,” Saunders told news.com.au.</p> <p>It relates to material produced under an AFP warrant and a subpoena issued in the ACT Supreme Court which Saunders said “appears to have been disclosed to the media in breach of the implied undertaking.”</p> <p>“The AFP yesterday confirmed the complaint has been received for consideration,” she said.</p> <p>The leaked audio tape first aired on Channel Seven during a televised interview on the Spotlight program, it has since been leaked to <em>The Daily Mail</em>,<em> The Australian</em> and <em>Sky News</em>.</p> <p>The ACT Supreme Court did not release the entire audio at the trial, but parts of it were played to the jury.</p> <p>The audio hears Wilkinson describing former Defence Minister Linda Reynolds as “a nobody” and an “idiot”, and saying “who is this f***king woman”.</p> <p>It also recorded the group war gaming the story and suggested Albanese would “definitely” raise the issue in time. Wilkinson has confirmed she never contacted him to do so.</p> <p>The leaked texts show private discussions with Wilkinson’s husband Peter Fitz-Simons regarding a $325,000 book deal and Sharaz describing then-Prime Minister Scott Morrison as a “c***t”.</p> <p>Higgins’ private text messages were provided to the police and lawyers during the criminal trials, and have since been leaked by sources unknown to media outlets.</p> <p>In the text messages, Sharaz suggested he had forwarded the entire transcript of Higgins’ interview with Lisa Wilkinson to Senator Gallagher before the story aired.</p> <p>Channel 10 were seemingly unaware that Sharaz had forwarded the transcript, which was also a signed statutory declaration, to other parties before the broadcast.</p> <p>In June 2021, Senator Gallagher was in a state of fury when the then-Defence Minister Linda Reynolds proposed she “knew where this started”, adding she had been tipped off by a Labor Senator before the story broke about what the ALP was planning.</p> <p>“No one had any knowledge. How dare you! It’s all about protecting yourself,” Senator Gallagher said at the time.</p> <p>Speaking at an ALP conference in Fremantle, Senator Gallagher was asked if she would stand aside or resign.</p> <p>“Why would I?" she said.</p> <p>“I was responding to an assertion that was being made by the minister Reynolds at the time that we had known about this for weeks and had made a decision to weaponise it,” she continued.</p> <p>“That is not true. It was never true. I explained that to Senator Reynolds that night and she accepted that explanation.”</p> <p>“Mr Sharaz provided me with information, I think we’ve seen that in the paper in the last couple of days,” she said.</p> <p>“I did nothing with that information. And I was clear about that at the time.</p> <p>“There’s absolutely no issue here at all,” she insisted.</p> <p>“I’ve been clear, I’ve been honest. And at all times, I’ve been guided by the bravery and courage of a young woman who chose to speak up about her workplace. Never-before-seen CCTV sheds new light into Bruce Lehrmann rape allegations

<p dir="ltr">Bruce Lehrmann, the man who was accused of sexually assaulting former political staffer Brittany Higgins in Parliament House, has shared his take in his first television interview with<em> 7News Spotlight</em>. </p> <p dir="ltr">The rape charge against Lehrmann - which was eventually dropped - could be traced back to March 2019, when both Lehrmann and Higgins were working for Linda Reyonlds, a former defence minister. </p> <p dir="ltr">In the time since, Lehrmann has repeatedly denied the accusations, and continued to do so while speaking to <em>Spotlight</em>’s Liam Bartlett. </p> <p dir="ltr">According to Lehrmann, he was with Higgins and fellow Defence staff members for drinks on the night of the alleged rape, with Lehrmann suggesting that they should move their festivities to a different venue - a nearby club.</p> <p dir="ltr">Their night out continued into the small hours of the next day, and Lehrmann noted that he had suggested sharing a ride home with Higgins, as they both apparently lived in the same direction from the party. </p> <p dir="ltr">As he told Bartlett, he had to grab his keys - as well as file some notes - from the office en route, with the two arriving at Parliament House at around 2am. Lehrmann didn't have his pass, claiming that he “probably just forgot it” as he “wasn’t expecting it to be a big night.”</p> <p dir="ltr">And as he informed Bartlett, he remembered Higgins telling him that she needed to visit the office too, and claimed that he didn’t know why.</p> <p dir="ltr">However, over the course of the rape trial, Lehrmann offered three different reasons as to why he’d had to visit Parliament House. The police were told that he needed his apartment keys, but Parliament House security were told that he had been asked to pick up some documents, and Reynolds’ then-chief of staff Fiona Brown was told that the two had gone into the office to share whiskey. </p> <p dir="ltr">While that detail is unclear, the episode featured never-before-seen CCTV footage of Lehrmann and Higgins that confirmed the two had been together at both bar and Parliament House. </p> <p dir="ltr">First, the two could be seen at Canberra’s The Dock bar with their colleagues. And then, at 1:47am, they were recorded entering Reynold’s office, before Lehrmann was spotted leaving Parliament House at 2:30am.</p> <p dir="ltr">Lehrmann claimed that once they were let into the office, he and Higgins didn’t exchange any words, and instead parted ways. According to Lehrmann, that was the last he saw of her. </p> <p dir="ltr">He told Bartlett that he hadn’t let Higgins know he was leaving, only for Bartlett to ask why they hadn’t gotten a ride home together. </p> <p dir="ltr">“She didn’t tell me she needed to go home,” Lehrmann said. “She told me she also had to go to parliament.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Bartlett questioned it further, wondering why Lehrmann hadn’t checked in on Higgins, but Lehrmann maintained that his mind “was focussed on getting my keys, noting down what I needed to note down.”</p> <p dir="ltr">And when asked about Higgins being found naked in Reynold’s office, Lehrmann continued to deny the allegations, instead offering that he couldn’t “talk to her because I never saw her again. That was news to me, with the rest of the country.” </p> <p dir="ltr">As Bartlett then pointed out, “you can then see the contradiction in this. "Yeehaaa": Olympic champ Emily Seebohm flashes engagement ring

<p><em>Married At First Sight’s</em> Ryan Gallagher has announced his engagement to Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm.</p> <p>The news comes just three months after the couple confirmed their relationship on social media.</p> <p>Sharing the news of the engagement on Instagram, Ryan posted a picture of Emily flaunting her new ring with the caption, "Yeehaaa ❤️”.</p> <p>The post was flooded with congratulatory messages and well wishes from friends and fans.</p> <p>Ryan, 34, proposed to Emily at a dam on his farm just outside of Golbourn in NSW.</p> <p>"I thought it was the right spot to do it – she loves the horses and she often swims in the dam," he told <a href="https://www.nowtolove.com.au/celebrity/celeb-news/ryan-gallagher-emily-seebohm-engagement-76958" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Woman's Day</a>.</p> <p>"I did get nervous though. The box was making a bit of a bulge in my pocket. “I’ll be playing for Liam”

<p dir="ltr">Rugby player Alexander ‘AJ’ Brimson has dedicated the rest of his NRL career to his late friend Liam Hampson, who was <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/missing-queensland-cup-rugby-league-player-found-dead">found dead in a Barcelona nightclub</a> last month.</p> <p dir="ltr">Brimson was one of a group of friends travelling with Hampson through Europe when he went missing for 30 hours, with the Redcliffe Dolphins player later found by workers at the nightclub Sala Apolo.</p> <p dir="ltr">The two athletes had known each other since high school and later lived together in southern Queensland for four years.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 24-year-old made the dedication while speaking to the media on Wednesday, the first time he has done so since his friend’s death.</p> <p dir="ltr">"The club has been really good, and it's been good getting into a routine again, not just sitting at home all day," Brimson said.</p> <p dir="ltr">"And hanging out with the mates, it's been a good distraction.</p> <p dir="ltr">"I don't want to be corny... but obviously I dedicate my season and my career to Liam.</p> <p dir="ltr">"I've got to get some sort of tattoo where it won't be under my jersey so I can point to it if I score a try or something.</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-aace88cb-7fff-a188-ec0d-13e9554f6941"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">"I'll definitely be playing for Liam."</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; <p>Emily Seebohm has confirmed she is dating Married At First Sight star and comedian Ryan Gallagher.</p> <p>The popular swimmer and three-time Olympic champion, 30, is currently appearing alongside Gallagher on Channel 10 reality show The Challenge Australia.</p> <p>There has been lots of speculation surrounding their romance and last month Gallagher was asked on radio station 2Day FM if he was in a relationship with Emily, to which he replied: “Em is a beautiful, beautiful girl, and if there was a relationship there, I’d be very lucky”.</p> <p>Since then, the pair have made it official with simultaneous Instagram posts shared on Tuesday.</p> <p>“Letting you in on a little secret,” wrote Seebohm with an image of her and Gallagher smiling on a balcony.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; "I love you, my boy": Liam Hampson's moving farewell

<p dir="ltr">The Queensland rugby league player that was found dead after an accident in a Barcelona nightclub has been farewelled in a touching ceremony. </p> <p dir="ltr">Redcliffe Dolphins player Liam Hampson, 24, was on holiday with several other teammates when he disappeared and was not seen for 30 hours.</p> <p dir="ltr">He was then found dead in the leisure complex at nightclub Sala Apolo.</p> <p dir="ltr">The beloved rugby player was farewelled in front of a thousand family and friends at a public service attended at Moreton Daily Stadium in Redcliffe.</p> <p dir="ltr">Gold Coast Titans playmaker AJ Brimson and Brisbane Broncos forward Jordan Riki were pallbearers for their friend and delivered heartwarming speeches.</p> <p dir="ltr">“You were, and always will be, a big part of my family,” Brimson said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“To say ‘I’m going to miss you’ is an understatement.</p> <p dir="ltr">“You were the most happy, honest, funny, loyal and loving person I knew.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I’m so grateful to have had the best time of our lives together, and nobody can take that away from us.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Liam’s father Brett Hampson broke down in tears as he farewelled his son saying there is “a hole in our heart that will never be filled”.</p> <p dir="ltr">“We will miss you so much, mate,” he said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I love you, my boy. He was just fun to be around. Noel Gallagher admits to forgetting classic Oasis lyrics on stage

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher has admitted he often forgets lyrics to his classic songs while performing on stage. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He confessed that sometimes he has to “make s*** up” when he forgets the lyrics mid-song in front of his adoring fans. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Noel said he stumbles over the words in the band's biggest hits, including Don’t Look Back in Anger, which spent several weeks atop the charts after its release in 1996.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During a conversation with </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Sun</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> newspaper, he said, </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Brain freeze, I get it. I get them when I’m doing gigs to 70,000 people.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“As the next line is coming I think, ‘Seriously, what is the next line to this song?’ You’re thinking, ‘I genuinely don’t know what it is’.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Somehow it falls out of the sky. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Kiama and Berry, on NSW’s South Coast, have seen an influx of A-list movie stars in the area including Russell Crowe and Liam Hemsworth, as the celebrities shoot scenes for an upcoming movie.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But, the stars have received a frosty reception from Kiama MP Gareth Ward, who vented his frustrations about the celebs being allowed to travel freely in the region despite widespread public health orders and nearby Shellharbour being in lockdown.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“This makes a total mockery of the public health orders,” he wrote on Twitter.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“People can’t see family and friends, funerals are limited to 10, no cases in Shellharbour but still locked down, but apparently A-listers producing movies is essential.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The actors and crew filming </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Poker Face</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">, which Crowe is directing and starring in, are believed to be following COVID-safe protocols.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Though some have raised concerns about the filming, others are finding it a welcome distraction.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Cathy Law, the editor of Kiama’s community newspaper, </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Bugle</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">, said she had been hearing rumours of Crowe and the crew’s arrival in town for a while.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We heard a couple of rumours yesterday,” Ms Law said, which Russell confirmed on Twitter.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I just think it’s fantastic for Kiama tourism now and into the future.</span></p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr">Shooting in Kiama.<br />What a beautiful place. <a href="https://t.co/rVYET2Tx52">pic.twitter.com/rVYET2Tx52</a></p> — Russell Crowe (@russellcrowe) <a href="https://twitter.com/russellcrowe/status/1424701482494881793?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 9, 2021</a></blockquote> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Destination Kiama chair Mat Brown agreed, saying the filming had created a lot of excitement and came as a welcome distraction during the pandemic.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It’s not the first time we’ve had blockbusters filmed here,” Councillor Brown said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There’s a lot of interest around the place from visitors and locals.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Once they are released, they are really important for tourism.”</span></p> <p><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Poker Face</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is a psychological thriller that centres around a billionaire (Crowe) who gathers his friends to his Miami mansion for a high stakes game of poker.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Scenes will also be filmed at Sydney’s Fox Studios and the movie is set to be released in America in 2022.</span></p> <p><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Image: Liam Hemsworth / Instagram, Russell Crowe / Instagram</span></em></p>

<p>Liam Neeson has paid appreciation towards Melbourne COVID nurses with a beautiful gesture while he is currently residing in Australia to film his new action movie<span> </span><em>Backlight.</em></p> <p>The international star has been in Melbourne for the last few weeks, and while he is definitely a busy man, he has taken the time to honour some of Australia’s frontline workers.</p> <p><img style="width: 500px; height: 281.25px;" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7839286/liam-neeson.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/cb3a4a676a9c4638a5ad26aa766490f0" /></p> <p>The 68-year-old Irish actor surprised a Melbourne hospital with flowers and a handwritten note that read: "To all you lovely Aussie and Irish nurses. Matthew Flame found not guilty of murder of Angry Anderson's son Liam

<div class="post_body_wrapper"> <div class="post_body"> <div class="body_text redactor-styles redactor-in"> <p>A Sydney man who fatally bashed Rose Tattoo rocker Angry Anderson's Liam while high on ecstasy has not been found guilty but of manslaughter.</p> <p>Matthew Flame, 22, told police he "lost his mind" and was possessed by "some form of entity" after partying with his close friend Liam Anderson in November 2018.</p> <p>Flame pleaded not guilty by reason of mental impairment to the murder, and after the verdict was delivered, Liam Anderson's mother Lindy hugged the man who killed her son.</p> <p>Flame repeatedly stomped on Anderson shortly after sunrise in November, with the prosecution contending that he was psychotic at the time due to his voluntary use of drugs. However, the defence said he was affected by mental illness in the form of schizophrenia.</p> <p>Outside court, Flame’s lawyer Leonie Gittani said her client was “very much” touched by the hug from his dead friend’s mother.</p> <p>“It’s been a tough journey for him and a tough journey for everyone,” she said.</p> <p>Ms Anderson also said outside court that "no one's winning out of this" and that she had forgiven Flame.</p> <p>When he was arrested, Flame ranted to officers about Satan. Liam Neeson in hotel quarantine as he touches down in Sydney

<p>Hollywood star Liam Neeson is in hotel quarantine in Sydney.</p> <p>The action hero arrived in the country last Saturday and is set to finish his mandatory 14 days of hotel room isolation by the weekend, according to The Age.</p> <p>Neeson is in Melbourne to a shoot a new action movie as soon as his quarantine is over.</p> <p>The $43 million film Blacklight was written, directed and produced by Mark Williams, who was also behind Netflix crime drama Ozark.</p> <p>The new movie will feature Neeson as a “troubled off-the-books fixer for the FBI tasked with pulling undercover agents out of dangerous situations”, the production company said, according to The Age.</p> <p>According to a Monday tally by NSW police, 5300 people were in hotel quarantine in NSW. Six of those were coronavirus positive as of Monday’s COVID-19 update.</p> <p>More than 84,300 people have spent time in hotel quarantine in Sydney since late March.</p>

<p><span>Australian brothers Chris, Liam and Luke Hemsworth are looking to let go of their Malibu home that they shared for $4.9 million.</span><br /><br /><span>Together the trio have lifted the price $1.45 million more than they paid for the place using a trust four years ago, real estate records show.</span><br /><br /><span>While there were not many changes made to the 4,612-square-foot floor plan, with its polished concrete floors, warm woody accents and shiny marble finishes - they did touch up the landscape and exterior of the house.</span><br /><br /><span>The home hosts four marvellous bedrooms, four bathrooms, a sunny chef’s kitchen and a wine cellar.</span><br /><br /><span>It also features a spacious media room that is decked out with purple walls and carpet floors.</span><br /><br /><span>The back patio includes a sauna and beyond that is serene tiered gardens that overlook a grassy lawn and unbelievable mountain dunes.</span><br /><br /><span>Altogether, the Malibu retreat is 1.3 acres and is above Point Dume.</span><br /><br /><span>Chris Hemsworth, 37, is best known for his role as Thor in the Marvel cinematic universe.</span><br /><br /><span>Liam Hemsworth, 30, gained fame for his role as Gale Hawthorne in “The Hunger Games” trilogy.</span><br /><br /><span>Luke Hemsworth, 39, plays the part of Ashley Stubbs on HBO’s critically acclaimed sci-fi western show “Westworld.”</span></p>

Gallagher brothers clash again: Siblings feud over new documentary
